There is an opportunity of Year 9 students to participate in a Water Safety Day in early December. Considering “Drowning is one of the major causes of injury-related death to children in New Zealand accounting for 16.5% of all deaths” (Safe Kids, NZ), we think this is a very important day for students to participate in. The specific purposes for the day include learning to: tread water and survival techniques, raft handling and what to do if the raft tips, which is important for Year 10 Camp, river crossing, and rescue techniques.
Students will be split into groups. Life jackets will be provided for non-swimmers.
