Goethe Society German Speaking Competitions
This month Claire Chan, Caitlin Lamont, Amelia Burley, Julia English, Shannon Siby, Bianca Janssen and Catherine Ramoo (all Year 10 students) competed against students of German from around the Wellington region at the German speaking competitions. They had to recite a poem in German, and answer questions about themselves in German. It requires a lot of preparation and courage to speak a second language in front of an audience of strangers, and the St Mary’s student performed admirably.

Year 13 Art History Fieldtrip
On Wednesday, August 23, the Year 13 Art History class went to Cuba Lighthouse Cinema to see an Exhibition on screen film called `Michelangelo: Love and Death.’ It was (a comprehensive look at the life and work of Michelangelo and complemented our study of Renaissance art. We were back to school in time for afternoon classes and another period of Art History!

International Languages week Celebration
This week we celebrated International Languages week. Every lunchtime, activities were organised from Japanese food tasting to crepes making. We were also privileged to see some performances at the whole school assembly. (Year 10 Samoan students singing, Year 9 Japanese students dancing, Y10 French students showing short films from their creative writing). To finish the week the Senior French students and the year 11 Drama class went to see Juliet O’Brien performing “In the Wars” at Bats theatre. What a week! We are looking forward to celebrating this again next year!

BNZ – Closed For Good
On Wednesday 23 August we were pleased to have five staff from the BNZ presenting financial literacy workshops throughout the school. This was part of their social outreach programme called “Closed For Good” which involves all the staff at the bank going out into the community to do good. The girls found the presentations useful and interesting and appreciated this extra opportunity to learn how to manage their money.
