Rugby Sevens

The SMC Sevens team will defend its National Title on Dec 1-3 at Sacred Heart in Auckland. The team is in training for this event at the present time as well as fundraising to get to the event. As well as the E bike raffle we have started a GiveaLittle page to raise funds. The link to the page is:

Rugby Sevens

On Monday October 23 the SMC Sevens Team successfully defended their Condor Regionals title comprehensively winning all the games played.

Several new players have been brought into the team so as to create an ongoing presence in rugby for St Mary’s

The results were as follows:

Pool Play
Vs Taita College – win – 41-7
Vs Naenae College – win – 49 – 0
Vs Wellington East – win – 50 – 0

Semi Final
Vs Wainiuomata High – win -34-0

Vs Aotea College – win 41-7

The team now commences training to prepare to defend its national title in Auckland on December 2-3.

SANIX World Rugby Youth Champions

Congratulations to our Rugby 7s team who travelled to Japan to compete in the SANIX World Rugby Youth Tournament over the holidays.  We are very proud of you as individuals and as a team for representing New Zealand and St Mary’s College so well.  The dedication and commitment this team has shown has rewarded them with this amazing result.

The tournament was made up of teams from around the world including England, Australia, Japan & Hong Kong.  The girls worked really hard and were unbeaten throughout the tournament.

St Mary’s 7’s Team Needs Your Help

St Mary’s College rugby 7’s girls have recently won the national 7’s championships and the right to represent New Zealand at the Sanix World Youth Cup in Fukuoka Japan at the end of April 2017.

Swimming Sports 2017

Venue Freyberg Pool

Date Tuesday, 2 May 2017
Time 8.30am – 12.00pm



  1. All Year 9, House Captains, Competitors, and Officials are to attend the swimming sports.
  2. Students must wear School Uniform to and from the Swimming Sports.  Please ensure they have a rain coat as well as they will be expected to walk back to school for afternoon classes.
  3. All students must assemble outside Freyberg Pool at 8:30am in alphabetical order in your form class for roll call.
  4. Once students enter the pool they sit in House Groups.
  5. Once Swimming sports are completed at 12pm, all students will return to school for afternoon classes. Students will walk back to school accompanied by staff back to the College.
  6. Please NOTE that students will need to bring their own food and drink, as they are not permitted to purchase any at the pool. Food and drink can be consumed in the spectator viewing area only – do not bring glass bottles.
  7. Do not leave valuables in the pool changing room. Best to not bring them at all.
  8. Family members and friends are welcome as spectators.

Waka Ama

Great effort from all our crews.  Three of our U19 teams raced each other in the Bowl Finals in the W6 500m with Autuahineraa placed 2nd and our U16 W6 500m crew made the Plate Finals!.

Big thanks to Ms Goddard & Ms Hardwick and all our parents that were there to transport, cook, clean and support all our girls.

Maadi Cup Rowing

Congratulations to the Rowing team for their best ever results at the Maadi Cup.  They made three A Finals and two B Finals.  Special congratulations to the following rowers for a top ten finish in their events – Cara McAree, Grace Ohlsson, Lucy Golding, Meg Thompson, Miriam Lindsay, Eleanor Paxie and Amelia Burley.

Futsal success: 2017 Wellington Zone Senior Girls Division 2 Winners

The St Mary’s College top futsal team were the unbeaten winners of the Wellington Zone Senior Girls’ Division 2.

This week the team competed at the Senior Girls’ NZSS Futsal Girls Championships at Wellington’s ASB Sports Centre. The girls made it into the top eight as the only team from the Wellington Region.

Givealittle – Rugby Sevens’ Trip to Japan

St Mary’s College Sevens’ Team quest to get to Sanix World Youth Cup in Japan needs your help to make the dream a reality.

The team needs to raise $30,000 before Easter and are working extremely hard to fundraise. For some families the amount needed to travel is a big challenge.

This Givealittle page has been set up so that you can be a part of our journey and help us to bring home an international title!

Touch Success

Year 11 students Ivana Samani, Jada Jacobs and Riarna Vulu represented Wellington at the Touch New Zealand Grassroots Trust 2017 Junior National’s Tournament in Auckland recently.
The team played eight games over the three days and the Wellington Under 16 Mixed team were undefeated across the tournament and were crowned national champions.
