Welcome to St Mary's College. We are the oldest girls' school in Wellington and were established on our present site in 1850 by Bishop Viard. In 1861 the Sisters of Mercy were invited to take over the running of the school. We continue to be a Catholic Mercy College offering an excellent education for young women, following in the spirit and values of Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy.

We aim to provide an education which will enable each student to have a life-long love of learning and the desire and skills to make a difference in society.  Each subject area offers a variety of extension programmes to enrich the learning of our students. 

We expect our students to work to a high standard at all times and show respect and consideration for everyone. St Mary's College has a zero tolerance to bullying. Students are expected to work together and support one another in all areas of College life.  All students are encouraged to be involved in at least one of the numerous co-curricular activities which St Mary's offers. These activities help students to develop their social and leisure skills, as well as enabling students to play an active part in fostering "School Spirit".  We welcome parent participation, interest and active involvement.
